【August 8th= KEJ Koo Hye-Jin/ Translator= Jeong Ji-Hyun】On September 16th, the leading Japanese idol group SMAP is having their first international concert in Beijing, China, the tickets to which were sold to around 40,000 fans.
At the Chinese concert, which takes place at the Beijing Workers’ Stadium and will follow the format of “We are SMAP! Tour 2010” that visited a total of 5 cities in Japan last year, SMAP will present various performances including songs in Chinese.
The concert goes by the theme that says, “Hope for Japan; Thanks to China; Asia is One.” It was planned as a gesture of thanks to China who has been especially supportive of Japan upon the great earthquake in March, not only donating money and vital supplies to the victims but also supplying gasoline and other heavy oils free of charge when the issue of energy shortage emerged.
Ever since their debut 20 years ago, this is SMAP’s first concert outside of their home country. As Japan’s representative top idol group, SMAP hope to be the forerunners of furthering the friendship between China and Japan.
At the “Korea-China-Japan Business Summit” held on August 5th, SMAP became the first Japanese musicians to attend a conference together with the Premier Wen Jiabao of China. At the site, Premier Wen had revealed his anticipation for SMAP, saying, “I sincerely congratulate SMAP’s first concert in China. There are a lot of Chinese SMAP fans who await your arrival; I hope that, through your music, you are able to convey messages of hope and friendship far and wide.”
