【July 27th Seoul=KEJ Toshida Emi/ Photographer= Song Min-Jae/ Translator= Jeong Ji-Hyun】A production report conference for the new drama “Protect the Boss” was held at the SBS office building in Mok-dong, Seoul on July 27th. This new piece has gathered much attention already because it features the actor Ji Sung (34)’s first performance as a comical character and the popular group JYJ’s member Kim Jae-Joong (25)’s first attempt at acting in a Korean drama.
Ji Sung, Kim Jae-Joong, Choi Kang-Hee (34), and Wang Ji-Hye (25) joined the conference. This is Jae Joong’s first time acting in a Korean drama. In the plot, he performs the role of Cha Moo-Won, a young and cold-hearted director of the powerful DN Enterprise’s business strategy team. “I’m mainly concentrating on getting used to acting at the set,” Jae-Joong remarked. “The director and all the other actors are very friendly. Ji-Sung texts me even on weekends and always tries to lighten me up while filming.”
When asked if Park Yoo-Chun – a fellow JYJ member but also a senior actor – gave him any advice on acting, Jae-Joong answered, “He told me to get used to not being able to sleep.” He also revealed that JYJ promised each other to go on a trip together once the drama ends, attesting to the three members’ especially close friendship. “So far, it was Yoo-Chun who was constantly busy, but nowadays, he keeps forgetting that I always have filming schedules,” said Jae-Joong with a smile.
Meanwhile, unlike the tough, hard-working men that he has always played in the past, Ji Sung’s role in this new piece will be a rather comical character. “It’s a lot easier for me to act because I don’t need to be the cool, perfect man. You’ll be able to see me improvising, even,” Ji Sung commented. “I’m going to seem like the worst guy ever, but please do enjoy watching my performance!” he added.
Ji Sung and Kim Jae-Joong work together as cousins in the drama. Ji Sung confessed that, “Before filming began, the cast and the staff all went on a trip together. I was roommates with Jae-Joong, so we basically slept in the same bed the day we first met.”
“Protect the Boss” is a cheerful, cute, and romantic comedy that begins when Noh Eun-Seol (played by Choi Kang-Hee), struggling from unemployment, comes to work under Cha Ji-Heon (played by Ji Sung), a delinquent boss at a big-name company. Along with Ji Sung, Choi Kang-Hee, Kim Jae-Joong, and Wang Ji-Hye, other veteran actors like Park Young-Kyu (57), Cha Hwa-Young (50), and Kim Chung (49) will add to the drama’s quality.
“Protect the Boss” goes on air every Wednesday and Thursday night at 9:55 p.m. on SBS, starting August 3rd.
