【July 30th Chiba=KEJ Koo Hye-Jin/ Photographer= Chang Dong-Yeop/ Translator= Jeong Ji-Hyun】“Love-1 Festival 2011,” the highly experimental all-day outdoor event comprised only of K-Pop artists, was brought to a successful end on July 30th.
From 2:00 to 8:30 pm, “Love-1 Festival 2011” took place at Boat Park in Chiba for a total of 6 hours at a specially constructed outdoor stage. Eleven teams of popular K-Pop musicians – Kara, Supernova, Kim Hyun-Joong, 4-Minute, FT Island, MBLAQ, ZE:A, Infinite, Supreme Team, Rainbow, and the Boss – made an appearance. Various DJs joined the event to fill the intermissions with funky remixes of American and K-Pop songs; it was a day packed with purely good music.
Based on the three main themes of “Harmony in Asia,” “Coexistence with Nature,” and “Visible Charity,” the festival gathered particular attention as it was the first all-day event in Japan, ever, to feature K-Pop artists only . Besides the live music, other Asia-themed contents of the event included a motor show, an instrumental performance by Nan-Ta, and lots of Asian foods. Part of the profit will be donated to help the recovery of Eastern Japan’s earthquake victims.
Upon opening with Nan-Ta’s performance, the concert officially began with Supreme Team, the Boss, and Rainbow’s appearance. As the Boss came on stage, however, rain started to pour little by little and forced the audience to put on their raincoats. Even harsher rain ensued by ZE:A’s turn; their member Min-Woo almost fell on the slippery stage as the audience watched in suspense.
The crowd welcomed FT Island’s appearance with a wild roar. The band has been growing very popular in Japan as is the drama “You’re Beautiful,” in which the lead vocalist Lee Hong-Ki appears. Even after having finished their own concert at the Nippon Budokan the day before, FT Island presented a passionate show and skillfully led on the crowd with refined stage manners. Kim Hyun-Joong, who likewise finished a Japanese showcase on the 29th, thanked the crowd for being supportive even in such rain, saying, “You make it feel good to sing live on stage.” He went on to perform tracks from his first solo mini-album “Break Down” and promised his fans to meet more often in Japan as he left the stage.
After Supernova’s turn came the popular girl-group Kara, who burned the stage with passion one last time with the songs “Mister,” “Jumping,” “Honey,” “Go! Go! Summer,” and “Jet Coaster.” The festival, which unfolded in high spirits despite the rain, came to a grand finale as colorful fireworks decorated the night sky.
