【August 4th Roppongi, Tokyo= KEJ Koo Hye-Jin/ Photographer= Jeong Ji-Hyun/ Translator= Jeong Ji-Hyun】The rookie actor Kim Soo-Hyun (23) showed much love for “Dream High,” in which he played a leading role for the first time, at a press conference celebrating the drama’s Japanese landing through the network channel TBS.
Along with Kim Soo-Hyun, the drama’s main actors Suzy (16) from Miss A and Taek-Yeon (22) and Woo-Yung (22) from 2PM also attended the press conference which was held at the Vanity Lounge in Roppongi, Tokyo on August 4th.
Portraying the journey of students at an arts high school who dream of becoming stars, the drama features Kim Soo-Hyun as Sam-Dong, a pure-hearted youth who makes a dash for his goal of debuting as a singer. As the very person responsible for the nationwide “Sam-Dong Fever” at the time of the drama’s broadcast in Korea, Kim Soo-Hyun is a rising talent whose further performance is anticipated even in Japan.
“Sam-Dong is a simple, manly guy with an innocent heart,” Kim Soo-Hyun commented on his own character. “For me, the challenge of playing him was that I had to perform music and dance, but it was also exciting at the same time.”
In the plot, Sam-Dong falls for the clever and talented Go Hye-Mi (played by Suzy) and tries to win over her heart. Kim Soo-Hyun remarked, “Hye-Mi plays the crucial role of encouraging Sam-Dong to follow his dream. She seems cold-hearted on the outside but is actually a sweetheart who cares a lot about people around her.”
Through “Dream High,” Kim Soo-Hyun also got to work with Bae Yong-Joon, who plays the board president of the arts school in the plot and also happens to be the chairman of Kim Soo-Hyun’s representative company. “It was a greatly inspiring experience to work with Bae Yong-Joon and Park Jin-Young, who are prominent leaders of their professional fields. I was able to witness first-hand their infinite passion and endeavor,” the actor revealed.
“Dream High” airs on the show “Hallyu Select” on TBS, on weekdays at 10:05 a.m.
